Short Term Exchange Programme
What does it involve?
You must be aged 15-17 at the time of the exchange.
You will be introduced to someone from another country of similar age and with similar interests. If you get on with each other we can begin the arrangements.
Your two families will spend the next few months getting to know each other online before the exchange begins.
You will spend the summer holiday together, staying in each other’s home in turn..
We recommend staying for three weeks in each place (total of six weeks). It takes that long to stop feeling like a visitor.
How you get started
- Register your interest!
- You will then be contacted by a Rotarian in your area who specialises in Youth Exchange.
- An interview will be arranged for you and your parents at your home.
What does it cost?
General costs for each student:
- £25 non-returnable administration fee due upon acceptance by the club
- Return air fare
- Insurance
- Visa (if necessary)
- Inoculations (if necessary)
Programme specific costs:
- STEP involves reciprocal hospitality. The Host family has an extra teenager to feed and will also need to entertain the visitor – maybe take them out to local places of interest. Of course this applies equally to both families.

- We have a new exchange connection with Indonesia and we should be able to arrange Short Term Family-to-Family exchanges to that country in Summer 2026.
